A Breif History

I am Hesper, Goddess of Darkness. I'm the first child of Emile and Lamond of Chelsea, England. I was born there during the dusk hours of a misty night, in the year 1885. I will be turning 116 years old this year though I've only aged 33 mortal years.

Unlike your vampires of myth, I assure you I'm quite different and very real. It appalls me that people expect vampires to dress as if we are always on our way to a funeral, I prefer a more flamboyant image. Crucifixes do no intimidate me, and a stake through the heart will not put me to rest. Some of us die easier but my blood is very thick with strong virgin cells. Please understand, virgin for a vampire has to do with the exchange of blood when we make another, it does not mean we are sucking the blood out of all the innocent mortal virgins on the planet. My maker was the first made by her maker and I am the first made by her. This makes me second generation first made, so I'm stronger than most my age.

Lamond, my mortal father was a military man and in 1910 he was called to Paris. He died in the Battle at the Marne on September 9, 1914. In 1919 I lost my Mother to the influenza epidemic. Ironically what took my sweet Mother Emile erased more humans than the war that took my Father. Paris was in the mist of celebration and I stood alone, afraid and sobbing. I was a 24 year old mortal without a family.

For the next nine years I survived in a daze, soaking in the wondrous art and music of Paris. The theater I most enjoyed frequenting was The Vampire Theater. They put on extravagant productions that told the old tales of The Theater of the Vampires. The stories, so rich and entralling that some regulars believed if they took the right steps, they too would be chosen to live the life of eternal darkness. Death had been a common occurance in my life, so I was not afraid of it as a mortal. I laughed in its face, just as I laughed at those fools in their pale makeup drinking the blood of some sacrificed animal, with their chants for eternal life. Perhaps that is why I intrigued Charon. She spoke to me without words. She knew what I needed, and I accepted the gift without resistance.

In 1930 I arrived in New York City. I feasted on the blood of crime lord scum til the end of prohibition in 1933. I then became a bit more discreet in obtaining my meals. There are plenty of evildoers to go around in New York. It is a smorgasbord, thus the reason I stayed there until 1946. It is the best place to go unnoticed.

I traveled the world abroad from 1946 to 1965, spending most of my time in Amsterdam, London and the Chelsea Embankment along the Thames River where I lived as a mortal girl. In 1967 I returned to the States and settled in New Orleans, where I remained until 1985. Having no luck with my conquest I returned to Manhattan and went underground. When I awoke in 1994, the belly of the beast screaming, "I feel you Hesper my evening star, I know who you are and what I mean to you. I hear you sing. I hear you think. I only need to see you." This people is when I relized the tale should be told, for in the 100 plus years I've exsisted things have now come around full circle. I now know, not even I am in control of this beat the odds, video game we call living.

                                                                        May you always live,
                                                                        and I never die.
                                                                        Hesper
